INTRODUCTION
The Development and Capacity Building Institute (DCBI) is a non-profit, non-governmental
organization composed of African and international scientists. DCBI headquartered
in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and with an office in Washington DC, was founded
during the summer of 1995 by Howard University faculty members and Ethiopian
Scientists. DCBI has been engaged in education and hands-on training of teachers,
scientists, physicians assistants, medical and agricultural specialists
in Ethiopia. DCBI's endeavors in capacity building in Ethiopia is recognized
and encouraged not only by the national and local government, but by the
United States Government through its Ambassador. Continued capacity building
of educational, technological, biomedical, agricultural research needs
of Africa in the 21st century is, therefore, one of DCBI's highest priorities.
This proclaimed mission has allowed DCBI to attract scientists and faculty
from many international and African institutions. DCBI is composed of highly
trained professionals and research scientists from known and respected
US universities. This vast diversity of expertise makes DCBI the most unique
capacity building institution in Africa.
